Steven Spender's Poem "Memento"

It is important that we understand that Spender is non communicate us if we remember, he is telling us to remember. To remember the horror, the injustice, and all persist detail. This includes the burning of bodies, the desperation, and the camps where countless of innocent community were murdered. This poetry is real a Memento. It is a reminder of a the execrable period in our worlds past that must never be forgotten.         The first stanza contains the description of burning bodies. The blackness of flesh tarring the clappers, these are the remains of the people who suffered at Belsen Theresienstadt Buchenwald. During Spenders description, despair is the unless emotion mentioned. This despair comes from the victims, those who were burned by people with the intentions to direct aside an entire race. They were only burned because of sh eer hatred.         Spender goes on describing the dead in the second stanza with, Their eyeball sink jellied in their holes. This is followed by, Were held up to the sun like mendicity roll. Those lines still describing the bodies, but now there is a compare. The change posture jellied eyes are compared to implore bowls. These eyes were desperate, they were hungry, theyre were begging for help.

        The Final stanza continues with another simile. This eon it compares the victims hands to rakes with finger-nails of rust. Those who were ensnare behind bars in camps and were not sent directly to die, were immediately ! put to hard labor. These people were literally utilise as the Nazis tools.
